Building a new marketing team from the ground up

In early 2024, a new CEO took the reins at Elemica, a $100 million PE-backed global supply chain software company serving the chemical, rubber, and CPG (consumer packaged goods) industries. However, Elemica’s marketing efforts were entirely outsourced, with a sole in-house marketer seeking support to grow company revenue. Elemica partnered with Market Growth Consulting (MGC) to address the challenge.

MGC assigned a Fractional CMO, who conducted an in-depth assessment of Elemica’s marketing capabilities and developed a tailored strategy accordingly. To begin, a detailed marketing plan and budget were implemented, with the goal of building a high-performing marketing team from scratch. During the implementation period, MGC successfully recruited for key leadership roles, including CMO and VP of Product Marketing, ensuring the new team had the expertise to execute the strategy effectively.

In addition to building out a team, a second key goal was optimizing Elemica’s marketing operations. MGC renegotiated vendor contracts to maximize value, selected best-fit marketing program vendors, and collaborated closely with the CEO and sales team to develop a robust go-to-market strategy. This intensive collaboration spanned five months and resulted in a cohesive approach that aligned marketing and sales efforts.

With a powerful new marketing team and a comprehensive strategy in place, Elemica is well-equipped to accelerate growth and expand into new markets. The company, which had previously relied on outsourced marketing, is now empowered to take control of its brand narrative and drive customer acquisition in a competitive global supply chain software market.
